Sustainability Journey
Emily, Vern & Lola
“Sustainability and being aware of the impact we have on our planet and where we adventure is so important to us. Our actions can have a direct effect on our world and it’s our mission to reduce our impact as a business. It’s our mission to help offset our footprint which is why we continue to create products using recycled materials, find suppliers in the UK to reduce air miles and promise to plant a tree for every order placed”
Wildbarc is extremely proud to sit at the table alongside sustainability giants Patagonia and many, many other businesses who are choosing to invest back in to our planet, at a time when it most needed. 1% for the Planet is a global movement inspiring businesses and individuals to support environmental solutions through annual membership and everyday actions. We are committed to the health of our planet, which is why we are will be donating 1% of our total retail sales to environment nonprofits who are creating positive change all across our world.
You make this happen, every time you make a purchase, we just take care of the financials. For every purchase made on our little shop or by our wholesale customers we will donate 1% of the purchase price to environmental not for profits and social enterprise partners.
As our business grows, our donations to our planet will grow with it, pretty cool.
Our planet is in the process of being turned upside down which is leading to strife for almost all life on Earth. We know it’s preventable. And we know it’s not going to save itself. It’s up to each and every one of us to solve it. But what levers can we pull? Reducing our carbon footprint is entirely necessary, but the transition of change is far slower than the time we have remaining.
One important tool to tackle the climate crisis and keep our temperatures from rising above 1.5C is to protect our forests and plant more trees.
They are also crucial in preventing ecological collapse. That's why we’ve partnered with Switch2Zero, their mission is to ‘to accelerate the global transition to net-zero carbon emissions for people and businesses everywhere’ and for every single order that’s made through us, by you, we will plant a tree on your behalf.
Nylon waste, other wise polluting the Earth, is transformed into ECONYL® regenerated nylon. It's exactly the same as brand new nylon and can be recycled, recreated and remoulded again and again.
Plastic free packaging
There is simply no need to use plastic in packaging. All of our packaging is made up recyclable and sustainable materials from the tags, to the boxes and even the packing tape we use. Not only is all our packaging recyclable but it’s also reusable.
Recycled materials
We source retired climbing ropes to bring a new lease of life and make limited dog leads. Did you know that if climbing rope is a certain age or has had a ‘fall’ it must legally be retired? But what happens to that rope? Landfill? Well we make it our mission to save these ropes from landfill and bring a new chapter in their story. Often ropes which show little sign of wear are no longer usable by climbers yet still incredibly strong.
Apparel
Our collection of unisex tshirts are made by Stanley Stella. They believe change is needed in the textile industry to produce clothing a lot more responsibly. Their affiliation with the Fairwear Foundation and high standards certifications reinforce their commitment to sustainable and responsible practices.
What's next?
At Wildbarc we are always striving to reduce our carbon footprint and help make a change, that’s why we are constantly evolving and learning new ways to operate. We continuously seek to find more local suppliers, recycled materials and expand upon our recycled collections. We’re excited as to where the future takes in and always welcome suggestions so please get in touch.
