Crickhowell Walking Festival 2026: Everything You Need to Know Before You Visit

Crickhowell Walking Festival 2026: Everything You Need to Know Before You Visit

If you’re planning a visit to Crickhowell in early spring, here’s one date to circle in your diary, The Crickhowell Walking Festival 2026.

Taking place across nine days, this much loved festival, now in its 18th year, is one of the highlights of the year in the Brecon Beacons, and a brilliant way to explore the landscape, stories and community that make this area so special.

Whether you’re a seasoned hill walker, a gentle rambler, visiting with family, or travelling with your dog, the 2026 programme has something for everyone.

What is the Crickhowell Walking Festival?

The Crickhowell Walking Festival is a guided walking festival led by knowledgeable local leaders who know these hills inside out. In 2026, the festival features an impressive 84 guided walks, covering a wide range of distances, terrains and difficulty levels.

Walks range from relaxed valley strolls to challenging mountain routes, with options including:

  • Short and long walks
  • Dog-friendly walks
  • Family walks
  • Night walks
  • Linear walks (with transport included)
  • New variations on familiar routes
  • Old favourites returning by popular demand

There are 15 brand new walks this year, alongside a full programme of events and workshops, making the festival just as social as it is scenic.

Choosing the Right Walk for You

Most walks have around 20 places, while some more challenging routes have smaller group sizes. Linear walks are limited to 14 people due to bus transport, the cost of this is included in the walk price and adds a lovely sense of journey to the day.

When booking, you’ll see the Boot Grading System (Grades 1–4), which helps you choose a walk that matches your ability and comfort level. The festival website explains these grades clearly, and it’s well worth reading the Walk Grading Guide, Terms and Conditions, and Payment information before booking.

All walks must be booked in advance via the official website

The TM5 Table Mountain Challenge: Saturday 7th March 2026

One of the standout events of the festival is the TM5 Challenge on Table Mountain, taking place on Saturday 7th March. This has become an established favourite over the years and is a must do for anyone who enjoys a proper leg burner with big rewards.

You may pass by our shop whilst taking on the challenge, so we’ll be open and ready to welcome you, whether you’re popping in to browse, wanting a water refill or just to bask in that post walk glow.

Competitions & Extras

The festival isn’t just about walking (though that’s a pretty great start). In 2026 you can also take part in:

  • The Photo Competition
  • The Sole Survivor Distance Challenge - for the person who walks the furthest across festival walks
  • The new Win a Rucksack Competition

Planning Your Visit

The festival website makes it easy to browse walks, book events and keep up to date. Be sure to check the Stop Press page in the run up to the festival for any updates related to weather, road conditions or last minute changes.

If you’re visiting Crickhowell for the first time, the Walking Festival is a brilliant way to experience the area, guided by people who truly love these hills.

And if you’re already local? You know how special it is.

We’ll see you on the trails and hopefully in the shop after.
